What are the 5 parts of a neuron? Cell body, dendrites, axon, terminal branches, and the myelin sheath.
What disorder occurs when one's myelin sheath begins to degenerate? Multiple Sclerosis which causes loss of muscle control.
Is there a correlation between intelligence and glial cells? It's possible. Albert Einstein had an abnormally large amount of glial cells in his brain.
How fast do neural impulses move? Different types vary in speed, some as slow as 2 mph and other as fast a s 200 mph.
Is a neuron positively or negatively charged? The outside? The inside is positively charged, but the fluid outside in negatively charged. This creates a state called the resting potential.
What is unique about an axon's surface? It's selectively permeable.
What is depolarization? When a neuron fires, it opens up, letting out the positively charged sodium ions. Following, each neuron after does the same, creating the action potential.
What are the possible effects of agonists? They may increase the production or release of neurotransmitters or block reuptake in the synapse. Some are even able to produce a euphoric high (drugs!).
Which is the most abundant neurons? Interneurons, we have billions of them.
How might the Sympathetic Nervous System react? Acceleration in heart rate, raised blood pressure, slowed digestion, raised blood sugar, and sweating.
How might the Parasympathetic Nervous System react? Slowed heart rate, lowered blood pressure and blood sugar.
