Antidepressant - Zoloft

Action - Inhibit CNS uptake of serotonin - Increase in serotonin levels is thought to act as stimulant to reverse depression
Use - Depression - Anxiety - Premenstrual dysphoric disorder - OCD - Bulimia nervosa
ADRs - **Serotonin syndrome (too much serotonin) - Dilated pupils - Irregular heartbeat - *Sexual issues - Muscle spasms
Contraindications - Grapefruit juice
Interactions - Other antidepressants - Cimetidine (supposed to relive gastric upset) can cause dry mouth - NSAID --> GI bleed - Lithium (for bipolar) --> toxicity
Medication Administration 50-200mg daily
Client Education - Takes weeks to months to work - Do not stop drug abruptly - Watch behavioral change - Careful in sun - Mood log
