Compulsion repetitive, ritualistic behaviors aimed at reduction of anxiety & distress or prevention of some dreaded event
Decatrophizing cog. behavior therapy procedure used in treatment of anxiety disorders- image of worst-case scenario happening
Fear unpleasant emotional reaction experienced in face of real immediate danger
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) anxiety disorder which is characterized by excessive and uncontrollable worry about number of events
Interoceptive Exposure cog. behavior therapy procedure used in treatment of panic disorder and arrived at reducing a person's fear
Obsesessions repetitive, unwanted, intrusive cognitive events that may take the form of thoughts, images or impulses
Panic Attack sudden, overwhelming experience of terror/fright
Panic Disorder anxiety disorder in which a person experiences recurrent, unexpected panic attacks
Phobias persistent and irrational narrowly defined fears that are associated with specific object/situation
Preparedness Model notion that organisms are biologically prepared, on the basis of neural pathways in their central nervous system
Social Anxiety Disorder form of anxiety disorder in which the person is persistently fearful of social situations that might expose him/her to scrutiny by others
Specific Phobia marked & persistent fear of clearly apparent, objects/situations such as snakes, spiders, heights or small enclosed space
Statistically Significant statistical statement that a research result has a low probability of having
Thought Suppression process of consciously attempting to stop experiencing, thought impulse or mental image
Worry relatively uncontrollable sequence of negative emotional thoughts
