Theraputic Use Acute migraine headache pain - Selective serotonin drugs are used for the relief of moderate to severe pain and inflammation related to migraine headaches

Contraindications Allergy to Selective serotonin agonists Ischemic heart disease (cardiovascular), transient ischemic attacks, uncontrolled hypertension, clients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (5-HT agonists)(antidepressant)
Precautions Hepatic and Renal Impairment Elderly Dialysis Pregnancy category C Lactation
Interactions Cimetidine - Increased effectiveness of 5-HT agonist Oral Contraceptives - Increased effectiveness of 5-HT agonist
Watch out for... Serotonin syndrome
MAX Dose 10mg in a 24 hr period
Client Education Subcutaneous Injection Administration - only 2 injections in a 24 hour period Impaired skin integrity - become sensitive to light - wear protective clothing and sunscreen when outside - UV rays dangerous, no tanning beds
