What is a scientific theory? | A scientific theory is an explanation for a large number of findings in the natural world, including the psychological world. It offers an account that ties multiple observations into one package. |
What is a hypothesis | A hypothesis is a testable prediction. They are specific predictions derived from theories (general explanations). |
What is psychology? | Psychology is the scientific study of the mind, brain, and behavior. |
What is reciprocal determinism? | The fact that we mutually influence each other's behavior |
What are levels of analysis? | Thought as rungs on a ladder ranging from lower rungs (biological influences, molecules and brain structures) to thoughts, feelings and emotions, all the way to social and cultural influences on higher rungs. |
What is confirmation bias? | The tendency to seek, interpret and create information that verifies existing beliefs even if their current information indicates that the original decision was incorrect, based upon the perceived information that made the decision. |
What is belief perservance? | the tendency to cling to beliefs even after they have been discredited. |
