| Carpe Diem | Common theme that emphasizes to seize the day |
| Catastrophe | Scene in a tragedy that includes death/destruction |
| Characterization | Author conveying a character's personality, values, etc. |
| Cliche | An overused idea/expression |
| Climax | The point in the story when the outcome of the conflict becomes clear |
| Comedy | A literary work which is amusing/ends happily |
| Conflict | A struggle between forces, can be internal |
| Connotation | Associations/implications that go beyond the literal meaning of a word |
| Consonance | Repetition of consonant sounds with different vowel sounds in words near each other |
| Couplet | 2 consecutive lines of poetry with the same end rhyme and similar length |
| Denotation | The literal definition of a word apart from impressions/feelings it creates |
