| Term | Definition |

| Friction | a force that resists motion of two surfaces rubbing against each other |
| Force | a push or pull that causes and object to move, stop, or change direction |
| Gravity | the force that pulls objects toward each other |
| Movement | a change in position or location |
| Position | where an object is located |
| Investigation | the way to find out the answer to a question |
| Variable | anything that can be changed in an experiment |
| Reliability | getting the same results on repeated trials on an investigation |
| Hypothesis | an educated guess |
| Conclusion | explains the pattern that you see in the data |
| Claim | statement or conclusion that answers the original question or problem. |
| Evidence | scientific data that support the claim. |
| Analysis | to break down the explanation into its meaningful parts |
| Reasoning | a justification that connects the evidence to the claim. |
| Control | a factor that is kept the same for every test |
| Independent Variable | the one object or thing that is changed or controlled |
| Dependent Variable | the variable being tested and measured |
