Energy & Circuits
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Kinetic energy | the energy of motion |
| Potential energy | the energy that is stored in an object |
| Light energy | energy that allows us to see |
| Electrical energy | energy resulting from the flow of electrical charge through a conductor |
| Thermal energy | the energy of moving particles in a substance |
| Load | any component of a circuit that consumes power or energy |
| Insulator | materials that resist the flow of electricity |
| Electric current | a constant flow of electrons through a conductor |
| Energy | what is needed to do work or cause a change |
| Conductor | materials that allow electricity to move through them easily |
| Flow | to move or travel smoothly in a certain direction |
| Sound energy | a form of energy produced by vibrating objects |
| Mechanical energy | all the energy something has due to its movement and position |
| Circuit | the pathway through which electricity flows |
| Open/incomplete circuit | electrons do not have a path to flow through; light bulb will not light |
| Closed/complete circuit | electrons have a complete path to flow through; light bulb will light |
