Honors Physical Science (Malone)

TermDefinition
Claim Statement that answers the original statement or purpose.
Evidence The available body of facts or information indicating weather a belief or preposition is true or valid.
Reasoning The action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way.
Science A system of knowledge and the methods you use to find that knowledge.
Manipulated variable The variable that the scientist changed during and experiment.
Responding variable The variable i an experiment that changes as a result of changes to the manipulated variable.
Control Things that DO NOT change in an experiment.
Graph A diagram showing the relation between variable quantities, typically of two variables, each measured along one of a pair of axes of right angles.
Data Facts and statistics collected together for reference or analysis.
Weight The force of gravity acting on an object.
Water displacement When an object enters water, it pushes out water to make room for itself. The object pushes out a volume of water that is equal to its own volume.
Volume The amount of space taken up by an object.
Mass The amount of matter in an object; a measure of the interior of an object, which depends on the amount of matter the object contains.
Density The ratio of a material's mass to its volume.
Metric system The decimal measuring system based on the meter, liter, and gram as units of length, capacity, and weight of mass.
