TermDefinition
Matter anything that has mass and takes up space
Element a unique particle of matter that is a fundamental building block of matter
Constraint a limitation on the range of possible solutions to a design
Criteria the requirements that must be met for an engineering solution to be successful
Atom an individual particle of an element
Atomic mass the mass of an atom
Periodic table of the elements a table that lists all of the known elements and groups them into columns by important shared properties
Chemical Symbol a shorthand notation of one, two, or three letters that represent the name of the element
Constraint-examples limitations such as time, money, no resources
Element-examples carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and lithium
