Properties of Matter- Part 2
Question | Answer |
---|---|
physical property | are characteristics of matter that can be observed and measured, such as mass, volume, state of matter, density, magnetism, solubility, and conduction. |
relative density | a physical property of matter which involves sinking or floating of objects in water. Objects that are more dense, sink in water and less dense objects, float in water. |
conductor; conductivity; conduct | a material that allows energy to flow through it. |
insulator; insulate | a material that does NOT allow energy to flow through it |
soluble; solubility | the ability of a material TO dissolve in water. |
dense | having particles that are close together |
magnetic; magnetism | an attracting force that causes a magnetic material to move towards a magnet |
mass | the amount of matter in an object. It is measured on a balance in grams/ kilograms. |
electrical conductivity | a material that allows electrical energy to flow through it |
thermal conductivity | a material that allows thermal energy to flow through it |
dissolve; dissolving | the process of a substance broking down into small pieces and spread evenly throughout a liquid (water) |
