Sensation and Perception

what is sensation? | the activation of receptors in the various sense organs |
what are sensory receptors? | specialized form of neutrons |
just noticeable difference | the smallest difference between two stimuli that is detectable |
absolute threshold | the smallest amount of energy needed for a person to detect |
subliminal stimuli | stimuli that are below the level of conscious awareness, just strong enough for people to notice |
habituation (subliminal perception) | tendency of the brain to stop attending to constant and unchanging information, senses turn it off |
subliminal perception | process by why the subliminal stimuli act upon the unconscious mind, influencing behavior, habitation and sensory adaptation |
sensory adaptation | tendency of the sensory receptor cells to become less responsive to a stimulus that is unchanging, brain turns off |
