| Part A | Inpatient hospital stays, hospice, nursing home stays |
| Part B | Outpatient hospital and doctor visits, DME |
| Part C | Private companies can offer Medicare, cover Part A and Part B benefits |
| Part D | Prescription Drugs |
| Health Maintenance Organization (HMOs) | Require a member to select a primary care physician from a network of physicians contracted through the HMO. |
| Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) | Member is not required to select a primary care physician, but instead may visit any physician contracted within the network |
| TRICARE | Covers dependents of active-duty members, as well as retirees of the military. |
| CHAMPVA | Government program which helps pay for medical costs of veterans and families of veterans who have been disabled while in service. |
| Medicaid | A state run program designed for patients with low incomes |
| Medicare | A federal program for patients over the age of 65, or those younger that have long-term disabilities. |
