| calculator notation | on a calculator display, E stands for an exponent of 10, followed by another number, which is the value of the exponent |
| cube root | a number, written as ∛x, whose cube is x |
| exponent | the number that indicates how many times the base is used as a factor |
| exponential notation | a "shorthand" way of writing repeated multiplication composed of a base and an exponent |
| perfect cube | a cube of a whole number |
| perfect square | a square of a whole number |
| radical | the symbol used to represent the nonnegative square root of a number |
| scientific notation | a method of writing very large of very small numbers by using powers of 10 |
| standard notation | the way we usually write everyday numbers |
| square root | a number that is multiplied by itself to form a product |
