Phys/Chem Changes
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Physical change | a change in the size, shape, or state of matter but the substance remains the same. No new substance is formed. |
Physical Properties | properties that can be measured or observed without matter changing to an entirely different substance. |
Matter | anything that has mass and takes up space |
Physical Change | two or more different types of matter that are combined. No new substance is formed. |
Homogenous Mixture or Solution | a mixture of one or more substances dissolved evenly into another substance. |
Heterogeneous Mixture | is a mixture in which the composition is not uniform throughout the mixture (may be clumpy) |
Solid | has its own shape that does not change; does not move and are packed tightly together |
Liquid | takes the shape of the container it fills. Flows inside the container. Easy to pour. |
Gas | expands to fill the entire container it is in; moves in all directions. |
Condensation | water which collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. The conversion of a vapor or gas to a liquid |
Water Vapor | the gaseous phase of water |
Chemical Change | atoms can rearrange to form a new substance. |
