Civics vocab A

TermDefinition
Free Able to act or do as one wishes; not under the control of another.
Freedoms The power or right to act, speak or think as one wants without being constrained. Recognised today as one of the fundamental universal rights of humanity. These give people the ability to exercise their human rights.
Magna Carta charter signed by King John under duress from his Barons in June 1215CE which established the principle that everyone is subject to the law guaranteeing the rights of individuals to justice and a fair trial.
Rule of Law The idea that every person is subject to the laws of the land regardless of their status; meaning that no one is above the law.
Bill of Rights A list of the fundamental rights of the citizens of a country.
Speech The ability and right to express thoughts and feelings about ideas.
Assembly A group of people gathered together in one place for a common purpose.
Religion A set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature and purpose of the universe.
Association An organisation of people with a common purpose.
Movement Changing locations or positions.
Legislation Laws that have been enacted.
