Literary Terms

TermDefinition
Plain Folks Propagandist tries to convince us that their ideas are "of the people"/just like plain folks.
Ethos An appeal or persuasion that deals with credibility of the speaker.
Foreshadowing Literary technique where clues are dropped to alert the reader to something important that will happen in the story later on.
Bandwagon Propaganda technique that appeals to our need to join and belong in a group.
Syntax Word order (sentence order)
Diction Word choice (dictionary)
Pathos emotional appeal to the audience
Third person Omniscient point of view where narrator is all knowing
Third person Limited point of view where narrator is removed from the whole story and only focuses on one or more characters.
Glittering generalities Propaganda technique that uses virtue (glitter) words.
Pun humorous technique with double meaning words
Imagery language that appeals to the senses
Logos an appeal to logic
Metaphor direct comparison between two unrelated objects/ideas
Allegory a story where characters and events are symbolic of something figuratively.
