Leuprolide Tx: Prostate cancer; GnRH analog (continuous)
Flutamide Tx: Prostate cancer; Androgen receptor blocker; Side Effect: hepatic toxicity
Finasteride Tx: Male pattern baldness; Prostate enlargement; 5-alpha reductase inhibitor; prevents conversion of DHT
Clomiphene Tx: Infertility; partial agonist at pituitary estrogen receptors; prevents normal feedback inhibition and increases LH and FSH production; stimulates ovulation; Side effect: blurred vision
Hormone Replacement Therapy Complications Increased thromboembolism; Increased incidence of stroke; Increased incidence of cholecystitis; Deceased incidence of bone fractures;
Tamoxifen Tx: Breast cancer; Estrogen antagonist (breast)
Raloxifene Tx: Menopausal osteoporosis; estrogen receptor agonist (bone)
Ritodrine Tx: stops premature labor, can cause diabetes
Chronic Use of Anabolic Steroids Hepatic carcinoma
Oral Contraceptive Contraindications Pregnancy; Hepatic disease
Chronic Ethinyl Estradiol Monotherapy Side-effects Deep venous thrombosis; Endometrial carcinoma; Stroke; Osteopenia
Norgestrel Progestin included in combination oral contraceptive therapy; High androgenic activity causes weight gain, acne, and excess hair growth
Progesterone Derivatives may potentiate GABA neurotransmission by binding to an allosteric site on the GABA-A receptor
