Student Achievement Data Definitions

TermDefinition
Formative Assessment Assessment AS Learning. Happens during instruction and allows for adjustment in teaching strategies.
Interim Assessment Assessment FOR Learning. Includes checkpoints along the way and guides/informs the instruction.
Summative Assessment Assessment OF Learning. Generally happens at the end of the year and informs systems.
Idaho Reading Indicator (IRI) Screener, diagnostic, and a summative assessment that also measures students’ progression in learning foundational reading skills. Includes subtests from each of the five essential components of reading.
Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) - ELA/Literacy Assesses what students know and are able to do in the areas of Reading, Writing, Listening, and Research
Proficient Student has met or exceeded grade level standards in a specific subject as determined by performance on the associated assessment
Rate of Improvement (ROI) Measures the rate of student growth through the year comparing a student’s past performance to that of their peers across multiple months.
Academic Growth Annual growth target that is identified so the student will be able to reach proficiency by the end of three years. If the student’s actual growth was greater than or equal to the target, the student is “on track”
