Psychology Memory Vocab
| Memory | The faculty of encoding, storing, and retrieving information |
| Encoding | The conversion of a sensory input into a form capable of being processed and deposited in memory |
| Storage | The state of an item that is retained in memory, after encoding and before retrieval |
| Retrieval | A process of accessing stored memories |
| Sensory Memory | When stimuli are taken from touch, smell, taste, sight, and hearing then put into memories |
| Short Term Memory | Conscious, active processing of incoming auditory and visual-spatial information, and of information retrieved from long-term memory |
| Long Term Memory | Memories that can last for very long periods of time |
| Explicit Memory | Memory of facts and experiences that one can consciously know and “declare” |
| Implicit Memory | Retention independent of conscious recollection |
