Stages of Development-Critical Thinking

| Stage 1-The Unreflective Thinker | We are unaware of significant problems in our thinking |
| Stage 2-The Challenged Thinker | We become aware of problems in our thinking. |
| Stage 3-The Beginning Thinker | We try to improve but without regular practice. |
| Stage 4-The Practicing Thinker | We recognize the necessity of regular practice. |
| Stage 5-The Advanced Thinker | We advance in accordance with our practice. |
| Stage 6-The Master Thinker | Skilled and Insightful thinking becomes second nature to us. |
| The three functions of the mind | Thinking - Feeling - Wanting |
| Thinking | Creates meaning. Sorts events in our lives into categories. Finds patterns in the world. Informs us of what is going on. |
| Feeling | Monitors the meanings created by thinking. Evaluates the degree of positive or negative, given the meaning we assign to them, tells us how to respond emotionally to what is happening. |
| Wanting | Allocates energy into action. Does so consistently with how we define what is desirable and possible. Tells us what is/is not worth seeking or getting. |
