Climate Change | A change in the average climate conditions in a region over a long period of time. |
Greenhouse Gases | Includes carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and CFCs. |
Carbon Dioxide | The most common greenhouse gas. It is a by-product of oil and gas production. It currently contributes around 75% of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions. |
Greenhouse Effect | Natural greenhouse gases in the earth’s atmosphere allow rays from the sun to warm the earth’s surface, they also prevent heat escaping from the earth’s atmosphere. |
Enhanced Greenhouse Effect | Human actions increase the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere therefore contributing to climate change. |
Fossil Fuels | These include oil, coal, and natural gas. They are made from decomposing plants and animals, once they are used they will not be replaced. |
Climate Change Mitigation | Efforts to reduce or prevent emission of greenhouse gases. |
Sustainability | The practice of using natural resources responsibly, so the future and present generations are supported. |
Climate Change Adaptation | Actions to help communities adjust to climate change. |
Carbon Dioxide Production | Cement production, burning of coal. |
Nitrous Oxide Production | Waste-waters, agriculture. |
Methane Production | Oil and gas, cow burps :d. |
CFC Production | Aerosols, air conditioners. |
