High School Vocab

TermDefinition
credit What a student earns for completing/passing a class. If I don't turn in an assignment then I won't get credit in that class.
Course Another word for class. My friend was asking me to join the same course as her.
Diploma Certificate that represents completion of a program of study. One thing we are all working for in High School is to get our Diploma.
Elective A course that is not required but can be chosen by students if they are interested in the class. My brother tells me to choose culinary as one of my electives.
Graduation Requirements Standards that must be met in order to receive a diploma. Some graduation requirements are to pass my main classes.
Advanced Placement Classes Accelerated and more challenging classes. If I get in more advanced placement classes in the beginning of my years then as a Senior I will have more free periods.
Freshman 9th grade year Next year I will be a freshman.
Sophomore 10th grade year My cousin will be a sophomore next year.
Junior 11th grade year My brother is a Junior.
Senior 12th grade The senior year will be the last year in high school.
Prerequisite A course that is required before another course can be taken. I will try my best to pass my prerequisite classes.
Smart Core Arkansas's college and career ready curriculum for high school students. When living in Arkansas I have to meet the smart core.
GPA Grading system that represents that averages your grades to determine how well you performed in all your classes. My GPA determines what colleges I could get into.
