High school vocab

TermDefinition
Credit What a student earns for completing/ passing a class. Students receive 1 credit for a course that lasts all year, 1/2 credit for a semester long class. To graduate from high school you need a certain amount of credits.
Course Another word for class. What is your favorite course from this year?
Diploma Certificate that represents completion of a program of study. To get your high school diploma you are going to have to work hard in all you classes.
Elective A course that is not required but can be chosen by students if they are interested in the class. If you want to look forward to a fun class in school you should look into the electives that the school has to offer.
Graduation requirements Standards that must be met in order to receive a diploma. I would have got my diploma but I did not meet the graduation requirements.
Advanced placement classes Accelerated and more challenging classes. I wanted to be smarted in math so I took advanced placement classes.
Freshmen 9th Grade year how you are classified in high school. When you first go to high school you will be a freshman
Sophomore 10th Grade year how you are classified in high school. when you reach sophomore year you will finish your 10th year of school.
Junior 11th Grade year how you are classified in high school. When you are a junior you only have one year after and then your done with high school.
Senior 12th Grade year how you are classified in high school. When you are a senior it means that it is your last year of high school.
Prerequisite A course that is required before another course can be taken. Before you take an advanced class you must take the prerequisite class.
Smart core Arkansas's college and career ready curriculum for high school students. If you want to go to the U of A you should take smart core.
GPA Grading system that represents that averages your grades to determine how well you preformed in all your classes. If you want to play sports you are required to have a good GPA.
