High School Vocabulary

TermDefinitionSentence
Credit What a student earns for completing/passing a class. Students receive 1 credit for a course that last all year, 1/2 credit for a semester long class. I need credits to graduate high school.
Course Another word for class. Algebra is one of my courses.
Diploma Certificate that represents completion of a program of study. I received my high school diploma at graduation.
Elective A course that is not required but can be chosen by students if they are interested in the class. Art is one of my electives.
Graduation Requirements Standards that must be met in order to receive a diploma. I have many graduation requirements to complete.
Advanced Placement Classes Accelerated and more challenging classes. I take advanced placement classes to challenge myself.
Freshman 9th grade year... how you are classified in high school. I am a Freshman.
Sophomore 10th grade year. I am a Sophomore.
Junior 11th grade year. I am a Junior.
Senior 12th grade year. I am a Senior.
Prerequisite A course that is required before another course can be taken. I have a prerequisite before I graduate.
Smart Core Arkansas´s college and career ready curriculum for high school students. I am currently studying with Smart Core.
GPA Grading system that represents that averages your grades to determine how well you preformed in all your classes. I have an amazing GPA.
Transcript Complete representation of a students´ academic record. (official grades) My transcript shows all my hard work.
