Ionic contrast agents | disassociate to cation and anion, higher chance of allergic reaction |
Nonionic contrast agents | does not disassociate, less chance of reaction, more expensive |
Examples of Mild, Moderate, and Severe reactions to contrast agents | - Mild- mild hives, palm itching, nausea/vomiting, sneezing - Moderate - big rash, higher heart rate - call for med assistance - Severe - anaphylaxis, low BP, cardiac arrest, convulsions, -call code |
