Chapter 4 vocabulary

domesticated (adj) the process of adapting wild plants and animals for human use.
cure (N) a medicine or medical treatment that makes an illness go away
ailment (N) an illness that is not very serious
prominently (adv) featured importantly or easily seen
myths (N) an idea or story that many people believe, but which is not true
mainland (N) the main area of land that forms a country, rather than the islands near to it that are also part of it
plethora (N) a large or excessive amount of (something).
consumed (adj) used or eaten
nobility (N) the group of people belonging to the noble class in a country, especially those with a hereditary or honorary title.
staple (N) a food that is needed and used all the time
span (N) a period of time between two dates or events
trace (V) to study or describe the history, development, or progress of something
culprit (N) the reason for a particular problem or difficulty
rationale (N) the reasons for a decision, belief etc
empty calories (N) calories derived from food containing no nutrients.
conventional wisdom (N) a generally accepted theory or belief.
sap (V) to make something weaker or destroy it, especially someone’s strength or their determination to do something
cut back (V) to reduce the amount, size, cost etc of something
spike (N) a sudden large increase in the number or rate of something
worst-case scenario (N) the most unpleasant or serious thing that could happen in a situation
