Urban Change

Urban Change Process whereby cities, towns and other built up areas change, usually to meet the changing needs of their populations.
Causes of Population Change 1) Relatively high natural increase in Population 2)Immigration 3)Migration within City 4) Rural to Urban Migration
Effects of Urbanisation 1) Urban Sprawl 2) Urban decay 3) Urban Redevelopment and Renewal 4) New Towns
Rural to Urban Migration: Push Factors Lack of services, Lack of Job Opportunities, Limited number of leisure activities.
Rural to urban Migration: Pull Factors Access to services, access to employment, perceived better quality of life.
Urban Sprawl Rapid Spread of Urban Developments on underdeveloped rural land around the city.
Urban Decay Deterioration of an urban area due to neglect or age
Urban Redevelopment when run-down houses and buildings are demolished and original tenants ae moved to new suburbs. New businesses build on valuable inner city land instead.
Urban Renewal when old buildings are restored or replaced by new. new facilities built to encourage residence to remain in the area
