Alcohol Withdrawal Treatment
Indications | Usual Adult Dose | |

Benzodiazepines Ativan (lorazepam) | Alcohol withdrawal and DT's (delirium tremens) | 2-4 mg IV q 1 hour prn until calm |
Benzodiazepines Librium (chlordiazepoxide) | Alcohol withdrawal | 15-100 mg every 1 to 2 hours as needed |
Benzodiazepines Serax (oxazepam) | Alcohol withdrawal | 15-30 mg, three or four times daily |
Benzodiazepines Valium (diazepam) | Alcohol and cocaine withdrawal | 10-20 mg every 1 to 3 hours for first three doses |
Antipsychotics Haldol (haloperidol) | Extreme agitation during withdrawal | 2-4 mg IV q 1 hour prn until calm |
Misc. Antialcoholic Agents (Detox Helpers) Antabuse (disulfiram) | Management of enforced sobriety | Initial dose: 500 mg po qd for one to two weeks Maintenance dose: 125-500 mg po qd (not to exceed 500 mg/day) |
Misc. Antialcoholic Agents (Detox Helpers) Campral (acamprosate calcium) | Maintenance of abstinence from alcohol | Dose: two 333 mg tablets (666 mg) po tid |
