| Ante Area | An area in which all preparations for intravenous (IV) admixture are gathered, including labels, gowning, and drug materials |
| Beyond-use-date (BUD) | The date or time a drug or material can no longer be used; the drug is ineffective after this date |
| Biological safety cabinet (BSC ) | A cabinet with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter for laminar airflow |
| Buffer Area | An area in which hoods are kept and IV preparation takes place |
| Clean Room | A space where microbial containment is kept and IV preparation takes place |
| Compounding aseptic isolater (CAI) | An isolator cabinet designed to contain all contaminants; prevents contaminants from escaping IVs and being transferred to the surrounding area |
| Direct compounding area (DCA) | A critical area within the hood where compounding materials are exposed to filtered air; also known as first-air |
| Media fill test | a test preformed on compounding products to ensure that no contamination has taken place during preparation phase |
