| Negativism | doing the opposite of what others want this behavior is normal for toddlers |
| NREM Sleep | a cycle of sleep in which rapid eye movement doesn't occur |
| Phobias | abnormal fears |
| Self-centered | people who think about their own needs and wants not those of others |
| Self-Concept | how people see themselves |
| Parallel Play | playing near nit not actually with other children this behavior is characteristic of 18-month-olds |
| Self Discipline | the ability to control one's own behavior |
| Socialization | the process by which young children learn to get along with other people, first in their own families, then in other groups |
| Temper Tantrum | incidents in which children release anger or frustration by screaming, crying, kicking, pounding, or holding their breath |
| Autonomy | independence in children, autonomy may mean bathing and dressing themselves and eating independently |
| Cooperative Play | playing with another child including interaction and cooperation |
| Separation Anxiety | a fear of being away from parents, familiar caregivers, ot the normal environment |
