fiction a story that is made up
main conflict the main character's problem in the story
summary a retelling of the story from beginning to end with only the most important information; use SWBST for fiction
theme The message of the story or the lesson learned from the story.
similes figurative language comparing one thing to another using the words "like" or "as"
illustration A picture that is drawn to help the reader understand the text.
selection the entire reading passage or story
main idea what a paragraph or entire selection is about
point of view (perspective) The one who tells the story.
first person point of view A character in the story tells the story. (Look for the pronouns I, me, my, and our in the story.)
third person point of view An outside narrator tells the story. (Look for the pronouns him, her, them, and they in the story.)
plot the main events in a story
author's voice How does the author FEEL throughout the story?
