| Element | Pure substance made up of only 1 type of atom |
| Molecule | 2 or more atoms chemically bonded together (can be the same or different atoms) |
| Compound | 2 or more different atoms chemically bonded together |
| Isotope | Atoms that have the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons |
| Nucleus | Center of the atom – contains the protons and neutrons |
| Proton | Positively charged particles |
| Neutron | Neutral (no charge) particles |
| Electron | Negatively charged particles |
| Electron Cloud/Energy Rings | Region outside of the nucleus where electrons are found |
| Atomic Number | Tells how many protons an element has |
| Atomic Name | Identified the element |
| Atomic Symbol | Abbreviation for the element |
| Atomic Mass | Tells the number of protons + neutrons in the atom/element |
| Ionic Bonds | Bonds formed between atoms due to losing or gaining electrons – results in electrostatic attraction between the atoms |
| Covalent Bonds | Covalent Bonds |
| Pure Substance | Substance composed of only one type of atom or one type of molecule/compound |
| Mixture | Substance composed of 2 or more different pure substances that are not chemically combined |
| Homogenous Mixture | Mixture with uniform distribution |
| Heterogeneous Mixture | Mixture without uniform distribution |
| Periods | Horizontal rows on the Periodic Table |
| Groups/Families | Vertical columns on the Periodic Table |
