Motion and Forces
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| speed | the rate of change of an object's position |
| average speed | total distance divided by total time |
| constant speed | a speed that doesn't vary |
| instantaneous speed | speed at a given moment |
| acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes |
| momentum | the quantity of motion of a moving body (p=mv) |
| gravity | a force of attraction between objects |
| weight | a measure of the force of gravity between objects |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object, not affected by gravity |
| free fall | occurs when the only force acting on a falling object is gravity |
| terminal velocity | the fastest speed a falling object achieves |
| centripetal acceleration | occurs when an object continually accelerates due to moving in a circle (moon, satellites) |
| projectile | any object that is thrown or shot |
| inertia | the tendency of an object to resist a change in its motion |
| velocity | the speed AND direction of a moving object |
