Drugs can be classified as what? classifications

Name the three drug classifications by their chemical compositon, by how they work, and by the disease they treat.
Define Generic name and Brand name a generic name reflects the chemical name, but in a shorter form. a brand name is the name the manufacturer uses to market the drug
Define Indications and contra-indications indications are the reasons for administering a medication or performing a treatment. a contra-indication is a factor that prevents the use of a medication.
what is dose? the amount of drug to be administered at one time.
what is mechanism of action? it is how a drug works
Define effects and side effects effect is the desired results of administration of a medication. a side effect is the effects that are not desired and that occur in addition to the desired effects
Define drugs the chemical substances that cause changes, physical or emotional, in an individual
define medicine and list the three qualitites that drugs must have a drug used to prevent, treat, or cure an illness or pain. the three qualities are: effectiveness, safety, and side effects.
Define prescription and over the counter a presciption is a written order by the doctor. over the counter is medicine that can be purchased without a prescription
define analgesics relieve pain
define antihistamines help allergies
define antibiotics kills bacteria
define antacids relieves heartburn
define sublingual under the tongue
define oral the drug is swallowed and absorbed through the stomach and intestinal tract
define inhalation a gas or aerosol inhaled by the patient
define injection the drug is injected into a muscle mass
define tablets compressed powder shaped into a disk
define spray nitroglycerin sub-lingual spray
define liquid/vaporized albuterol by small-volume nebulizer
define gel substance taht the patient swallows
define suspension drug particles mixed
define gas oxygen by mask
