CD High school vocab

TermDefinition
Credit What a student earns for completing/passing a class. Students receive 1 credit for a course that lasts all year, 1/2 credit for a semester long class. (Bob got a credit for taking ap chemistry.)
Course Another word for class. (Joe didn't take a music course this year.)
Diploma Certificate that represents completion of a program of study. (Joe received his diploma at the end of his last school year.)
Elective A course that is not required but can be chosen by students if they are interested in the class. (Bob took a elective music class because he enjoys playing instruments.)
Graduation requirements Standards that must be met in order to receive a diploma. (Bob didn't meet the graduation requirements and had to stay behind.)
Advanced placement classes Accelerated and more challenging classes (Billy was in a Advance placement math class.)
Freshmen-9th grade year how you are classified in high school. (Billy was in his freshmen year.)
Sophomore 10th grade year (Joe was in his sophomore year.)
Junior 11th grade year (Bob was in his junior year.)
Senior 12th grade year. (Richard was a senior at his high school.)
Prerequisite A course that is required before another course can be taken.(Bob was wanting to take a chemistry class, but there was a prerequisite to take another class.)
Smart core Arkansas's college and career ready curriculum for high school students. (Arkansas's high school students all were ready for smart core.)
GPA Grading system that represents that averages your grade to determine how well your performed in all your classes. (Billy had a high GPA, so he got to attend a good college.)
Transcript Complete representation of a student's academic record.(official grades) (Bob got his transcript made so he could send it to the college he wanted to go to.)
