Waves
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Transverse Waves | Causes the medium to move perpendicular to the direction of the wave |
| Longitudinal Waves | Causes the medium to move parallel to the direction of the wave |
| Refraction | Occurs when waves bend as they enter a new medium at an angle |
| Reflection | When waves bounce back from a surface they cannot pass through |
| Diffraction | When sound waves spread out and travel around obstacles |
| Destructive Interference | Occurs when the crests of one wave overlap the troughs, or lowest points, of another wave |
| Constructive Interference | When the crests, or highest points, of one wave overlap the crests of the other wave |
| Interference | When two or more waves meet, they interact with each other |
| Mechanical Waves | Disturbance in matter that transfers energy through the matter |
| Electromagnetic Waves | Waves that are created as a result of vibrations between an electric field and a magnetic field |
| Mechanical Waves Types | Transverse or Longitudinal Waves |
| Electromagnetic Waves Types | ONLY Transverse |
| Mechanical Waves Examples | Sound Waves |
| Electromagnetic Waves Examples | Light Waves |
