Story Elements
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Plot | the movement of a story through a sequence of events |
Exposition | The basic information that the readers need to understand the events of the story. This includes the characters and setting. |
Rising Action | a series of events that lead up to the climax of the story. |
Climax | Most exciting moment of the story; turning point |
Falling Action | occurs after the climax has been reached and the conflict has been resolved. |
Resolution | draws the action to a close and answers most of the remaining questions in the story. |
Setting | the location and time in which the action of a story takes place. |
Character | a person, animal, being, creature, or thing in a story. |
Conflict | the struggle between different characters in the story. |
Protagonist | the hero of the story, the main character and the focus of the action. |
Antagonist | the character that opposes the hero (evil enemy) |
Theme | the message of the story or the lesson to learn from the text |
