Term | Definition |

Chemical change | A reaction or a change in a substance produced by chemical means that forms a new substance |
Physical change | A change in which the form or shape of a substance changes; does not result in the formation of a new substance |
Dissolve | To mix with a liquid so that the result is a liquid that is the same throughout |
Characteristic | A feature, quality, property, or trait of an object or organism |
Gas | One of the fundamental states of matter without a definite volume or shape |
Liquid | One of the fundamental states of matter with a definite volume but no definite shape |
Solid | One of the fundamental states of matter with a definite shape and a definite volume |
Mass | The amount of matter an object contains |
Matter | Substance that has mass and takes up space |
Volume | The amount of space that an object or substance occupies |
Weight | A measure of the force of gravity on an object |
Mixture | two or more substances are physically combined |
Condensation | As water cools in temperature, water molecules gather from a gas in the air to liquid on surfaces such as a glass or window. |
Melting | a substance changes from a solid to a liquid |
Evaporation | a substance changes from a liquid to a gas |
Condense | a substance changes from a gas to a liquid |
Freeze | a substance changes from a liquid to a solid |
