Map Reading
| Term | Definition |

| river | a large natural stream of water (larger than a creek) |
| mountain | a land mass that projects well above its surroundings; higher than a hill |
| equator | an invisible line around the Earth forming the great circle that is equidistant from the north and south poles |
| Prime Meridian | meridian at zero degree longitude from which east and west are reckoned (usually the Greenwich longitude in England) |
| latitude | an invisible line around the Earth parallel to the equator |
| longitude | the imaginary lines that bisect the globe through the North and South Poles |
| globe | a sphere on which a map (especially of the earth) is represented |
| identify | a. to recognize as being; establish the identity of someone or something b. to give the name or identifying characteristics of; refer to by name or some other identifying characteristic property |
| locate | to discover the location of; determine the place of; find by searching or examining |
| describe | to give a description of |
| compare | to examine the character or qualities of especially in order to discover resemblances or differences |
| contrast | the act of distinguishing by comparing differences |
