| Accommodation | The change that occurs in the ocular lens when it focuses at various distances. |
| Aqueous humor | The fluid that is found in the anterior and posterior chambers of the eye. |
| Cataract | Loss of transparency of the lens of the eye. |
| Cones | Photoreceptors responsible for color (daylight vision). |
| Cornea | The transparent tissue covering the anterior portion of the eye. |
| Miosis | Contraction of the pupil. |
| Mydriasis | Dilation of the pupil. |
| Ophthaimic | Pertaining to the eye. |
| Rods | Photoreceptors that respond to dim ligh and are reponsible for black and white color (night vision). |
| Acoustic nerve | The cranial nerve that controls the senses of hearing and equilibrium and eventually leads to the cerebellum and medulla. |
| Auditory canal | A 1- inch segment of tube that runs from the external ear to the middle ear. |
| Auditory ossicies | The set of three small bony structures in the ear: malleus, incus, and stapes. |
| Eustachian tube | A tubular structure within the middle ear that runs to the nasopharynx (throat). |
| Labyrinth | A bony maze composed of the vestibule,cochlea, and semicircular canals of the inner ear. |
| Otic | Pertaining to the ear. |
| Tympanic membrane | A membranous skin that separates the external ear from the middle ear. |
