Ener. Transformation
Review of Energy Transformations Vocabulary
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Energy Transformation | processes that convert energy from one type (e.g., kinetic, gravitational potential, chemical energy) into another. |
Conservation of Energy | a principle stating that energy cannot be created or destroyed, but can be altered from one form to another. |
Kinetic Energy | energy which a body possesses by virtue of being in motion. |
Potential Energy | the energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors. |
Mechanical Energy | the energy that is possessed by an object due to its motion or due to its position. |
Thermal Energy | the energy that is generated and measured by heat |
Radiant Energy | energy transmitted in wave motion, especially electromagnetic wave motion. |
Sound Energy | the energy produced by vibrating sound waves |
Electrical Energy | energy made available by the flow of electric charge through a conductor. |
Chemical Energy | Energy stored in the bonds of chemical compounds. It may be released during a chemical reaction, |
Nuclear Energy | the energy released during nuclear fission or fusion, especially when used to generate electricity. |
