TermDefinition
What are the 3 types of force? Magnetism, gravity and friction
Repel When like poles on 2 magnets push apart (South pole and South pole; North pole and North pole)
Attract When opposite poles on 2 magnets pull together (North pole and South pole)
What are the 4 magnetic metals? SINC: Steel, Iron, Nickel and Cobalt (NOT COPPER)
Gravity a force that pulls objects towards each other
Friction a force that stops or slows motion when objects rub together; acts in the opposite direction of motion
Magnetism a force of a push (repel) or pull (attraction) of 2 magnets; when a magnetic metal pulls towards a magnet
Are all metals magnetic? NO!! Only steel, iron, nickel and cobalt
Spring scale a tool that measures force
Variable the one thing that CHANGES in an experiment; the stem vary means to change
constant what stays the same in an experiment
hypothesis a prediction in an experiment; educated guess: it is written in an If.............................then....................format
How does the surface of the ramp affect the distance a toy car will travel? What is the variable? Surface of the ramp
Force a push or a pull; it can change the position and/ or the motion of an object
motion a change in the position of an object
position the place where something is located
pull the act of applying force to move something towards you
push the act of applying force to move something away from you
reliability an experiment or investigation provides the same results after repeated trials
