Force
Term | Definition |
---|---|
What are the 3 types of force? | Magnetism, gravity and friction |
Repel | When like poles on 2 magnets push apart (South pole and South pole; North pole and North pole) |
Attract | When opposite poles on 2 magnets pull together (North pole and South pole) |
What are the 4 magnetic metals? | SINC: Steel, Iron, Nickel and Cobalt (NOT COPPER) |
Gravity | a force that pulls objects towards each other |
Friction | a force that stops or slows motion when objects rub together; acts in the opposite direction of motion |
Magnetism | a force of a push (repel) or pull (attraction) of 2 magnets; when a magnetic metal pulls towards a magnet |
Are all metals magnetic? | NO!! Only steel, iron, nickel and cobalt |
Spring scale | a tool that measures force |
Variable | the one thing that CHANGES in an experiment; the stem vary means to change |
constant | what stays the same in an experiment |
hypothesis | a prediction in an experiment; educated guess: it is written in an If.............................then....................format |
How does the surface of the ramp affect the distance a toy car will travel? What is the variable? | Surface of the ramp |
Force | a push or a pull; it can change the position and/ or the motion of an object |
motion | a change in the position of an object |
position | the place where something is located |
pull | the act of applying force to move something towards you |
push | the act of applying force to move something away from you |
reliability | an experiment or investigation provides the same results after repeated trials |
