Radiation Safety Part 5 - Stochastic/Non Stochastic

QuestionAnswer
The reason why radiographers should shield their selves and use ALARA each day is to prevent or reduce the chance of ____ response/effects. Stochastic (Probabilistic)
In a typical radiographer's daily work load should they be concerned about non-stochastic effects? No. Non-stochastic effects are dose related and it would take a significant dose to the skin, eyes, etc to create a dose response.
Which dose response would be more likely long term? Stochastic ( Cancer, Leukemia, and Genetic)
Which dose response would be more likely short term ( days, weeks, or months) Non - stochastic ( deterministic) such as epilation, sterility etc. Anything with a dose will be non-stochastic and radiographers are not affected by these
Stochastic responses are mostly due to ___________ doses Cumulative (however, we do not really know). This is why we shield ourselves
Which type of dose response curve would be used for plotting stochastic effects? Linear, non-threshold ( there is no dose related to stochastic effects. Stochastic is "serious" like cancer and genetics and their is no dose associated with it. The line will stay in the corner.
Which type of dose response curve would be used for plotting non-stochastic effects? Linear, Threshold. The doses would be plotted along the line to depict the various doses in order of severity. Deterministic effects would be like sterility, epilation, cataracts, etc.
Another term for probabilistic dose response is Stochastic
An example of probabilistic dose response is cancer, genetics, leukemia
Carcinogenesis is an example of what type of dose response? Stochastic (another term for cancer)
Increased dose will result in _____________ for Stochastic dose responses increased probabilities, not severity
Which dose response is characterized by being random in nature? Stochastic (probablistic)
Which type of response is dose -dependent? Deterministic (non-stochastic)
The annual dose of 50 msv for occupational workers reflect the level to reduce which type of dose response? Stochastic
Go to your "Target" area at the bottom of your screen - turn on back Instead of quiz, test, hit "Target" and you can identify different curves

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
