| wheel and axle | two circles that orbit about an axis |
| pulley | a grooved wheel with a cable wrapped around it |
| mechanical advantage | number of times a machine multiplies the effort force |
| input force | force put into a machine, the effort force |
| output force | the force the machine exerts on an object |
| resistance force | the force that opposes effort |
