| Fallopian tube | a narrow tube that connects the ovary to the uterus |
| Fertilization | the process by which a sperm unites with an ovum |
| Gametes | sex cells, or ova and sperm |
| Mammary gland | the milk-producing gland of women |
| Menopause | cessation of menstruation; a natural phenomenon in which a women passes from a reproductive state to a nonreproductive state |
| Menses | the time of menstruation |
| Negative feedback | a self-regulating mechanism in which the output of a system has input or control on the process; in this case, the stimulus results in reactions that reduce the effects of the stimulus |

| Oocyte (ovum) | the female reproductive germ cell, more commonly known as an egg |

| dysfunctional uterine bleeding [DUB] | irregular uterine bleeding that occurs in the absence of recognizable pelvic pathology, general medical disease, or pregnancy |
| dysmenorrhea | painful menstruation, typically involving abdominal cramps |
| endometriosis | a condition resulting from the appearance of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and causing pelvic pain. |
| hypogonadism | reduction or absence of hormone secretion or other physiological activity of the gonads (testes or ovaries). |
| Hysterectomy | a surgical operation to remove all or part of the uterus. |
| Infertility | inability to conceive children or young. |
| Kallmann syndrome | a condition characterized by delayed or absent puberty and an impaired sense of smell. This disorder is a form of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, which is a condition resulting from a lack of production of certain hormones that direct sexual development. |
| Klinefelter syndrome | a genetic condition in which a boy is born with an extra X chromosome. Instead of the typical XY chromosomes in men, they have XXY, so this condition is sometimes called XXY syndrome. |
| Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) | a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age |
| Pregnancy | term used to describe the period in which a fetus develops inside a woman's womb or uterus. Pregnancy usually lasts about 40 weeks, or just over 9 months, as measured from the last menstrual period to delivery. |
| Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) | a group of symptoms that occur before the onset of menstruation (eg, bloating, edema, headache, mood swings, and breast discomfort) |

| vasectomy | the surgical cutting and sealing of part of each vas deferens, typically as a means of sterilization. |
