TermDefinition
Atherosclerosis the accumulation of fatty deposits on the inner walls of the arteries and arterioles throughout the body that reduces the blood supply to vital organs.
Hyperlipidemia the broad term used to classify patients with high levels of blood fats (lipids)
Dyslipidemias abnormalities that involve one or more of the blood lipids.
Cholesterol a naturally occurring substance that is essential for synthesizing the body steroids that are used by the endocrine system.
Triglycerides a precursor of cholesterol
Lipoproteins circulating proteins
Chylomicrons small fat globule composed of protein and lipids.
