Actions Lower triglyceride levels, increase HDL cholesterol levels.
Uses In conjunction with dietary therapy to treat hypertriglyceridemia ; not recommended with statins
Pre med assessment Tris and CHO levels, liver function before and every 6 months after starting. Blood glucose levels....gemfibrizol (Lopid) may cause moderate hyperglycemia.
Admin Give gemfibrizol (Lopid) 30 minutes before morning and evening meals. Give fenofibrate (Tricor) with meals.
Common adverse effects Nausea, diarrhea, flatulence, bloating, abdominal distress
Serious adverse effects Fatigue, anorexia, nausea, malaise, jaundice, myopathy
