Academic Vocabulary3

TermDefinition
Headings an inscription, headline, or title at the beginning (as of a letter or chapter). Helps the reader identify the main idea for that section of the text.
Hyperbole extreme exaggeration or overstatement.
Idiom an expression that can't be taken literally, but has accepted meaning.
implicit understood even though it's not directly stated in the text.
inference/infer deduce or conclude information from evidence and reasoning rather than from explicit statements.
irony the figurative term for the disconnect between what appears to happen or what is apparently being said and the actual truth or reality.
