Introduces the concepts of weather, severe weather, and climate
| Term | Definition |

| air pressure | the force exerted on a surface by the mass of the air above it; also called atmospheric pressure |
| climate | the average weather conditions in an area over a long period of time (at least 30 years) |
| forecast | a prediction of future weather based on data |
| humidity | the concentration (percentage) of water vapor present in the atmosphere (air) |
| meteorologist | an expert in the study of weather; a weather forecaster |
| meteorology | the branch of science concerned with the processes in Earth's atmosphere that cause particular weather conditions |
| precipitation | an amount of moisture that falls to Earth like: mist, fog, rain, sleet, hail or snow |
| severe weather | out-of-the-ordinary (not normal) and extreme weather conditions |
| temperature | the degree of hotness or coldness measured on a scale; on a thermometer |
| weather | the day-to-day condition of the atmosphere in a particular place at a certain point in time |
| wind | the movement of gases (air) in the Earth's atmosphere |
